Nintendo’s reward system came unannounced and is limited to StreetPass
The recently delayed firmware update for the 3DS has gone live and users have found an unannounced feature nestled into Streetpass Mii Plaza. Nintendo has included what they are calling Accomplishments, an addition that will surely be compared to Xbox’s Achievements and PlayStation’s Trophies.
According to Giant Bomb, Accomplishments can be earned by completing certain tasks ranging from meeting Miis from ten different countries, to receiving a personal greeting, to meeting three Miis in a row. These Accomplishments currently hold no point value and are limited only to Streetpass.
It also remains unknown whether Nintendo plans on expanding the system to games and other consoles. In the past, Nintendo has expressed little interest in expanding any sort of achievement system that may already exist within their games. In a interview with Kotaku in January of this year, Nintendo’s head of product marketing, Bill Trinen, said “[Nintendo's designers] don’t tell you how to play their game in order to achieve some kind of mythical reward.”
