Now that the veil has been lifted from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, new details about the game have surfaced. The rumor that Platinum Games was developing Rising has been confirmed when the trailer for the game leaked before its unveiling at the Video Game Awards.
However, the trailer revealed some noticeable changes to the game’s original direction. Some fans have taken particular issue with the apparent modifications to Rising’s sword-slashing gameplay and the game’s removal from the Metal Gear Solid namesake. But a recent report on Andriasang clears up some of the concerns. According to tweet from Kojima Productions‘ official Twitter account, the developer has “only said that the period setting is several years after MGS4. Metal Gear Rising is not part of the Metal Gear Solid series. At present, we can’t say more than this.”
The report also said that the original Metal Gear Rising was at one point cancelled once the development team no longer knew what the core game was intended to be. It wasn’t until Platinum Games expressed there passion to finish the title that it got back on track.
As for the title of the game, it was changed to further distance Rising from the Metal Gear Solid series. In addition to the new title, Platinum Games have also said that they have reworked the original story after receiving new guidance from Kojima Productions.
