Skylanders was planned as a multi-platform experience, says Hirshberg
Activision have announced that Skylanders Spyro’s Universe is officially in beta. Skylanders is a fantasy realm of floating islands designed to inspire world building, exploration and friendly competition.
An MMO for young kids, the game allows players to customize their very own Skyland and manage their own collection of Skylanders. All the while exploring each other’s islands, playing mini-games and chatting with one another.
Activision Publishing chief executive Eric Hirshberg said, “We conceived Skylanders as a unique, multi-platform experience from the beginning, simultaneously grand in scope yet incredibly easy for kids to embrace.”
Spyro’s Universe ties in with its console counterpart, Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure. You can use the Portal of Power peripheral that comes with Adventures, and the Skylanders from that game carry over into the web version.
Hirshberg added, “You can play with friends in the real world or on consoles, Nintendo 3DS, Mac or PC, and now on the web in Skylanders Spyro’s Universe. If there’s a screen where kids play, we want the Skylanders to come to life there. This also further enhances the play options of every Skylander character.”
