Ballmer also confirms Kinect launch date for Windows operating system
Microsoft’s chief executive Steve Ballmer has said that the Xbox 360 has sold more than 66 million units since it was first launched in 2005, according to VentureBeat.
Ballmer also said that Xbox Live has more than 40 million users and that it has shipped in excess of 18 million Kinects.
Speaking at his final keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show, Ballmer said, “Did I expect this to happen 10 years ago? I bet on this 10 years ago.”
Ballmer also confirmed that Kinect will be available on Windows, and will launch on February 1. He also stated that Microsoft was working with 200 companies to develop motion-sensing applications for the device when it launches on the PC.
Microsoft also revealed at their CES conference that a number of new entertainment features would make their way to the Xbox 360. Partnering with News Corporation, services such as Fox News Channel, The Wall Street Journal, Fox Broadcasting, and IGN Entertainment will all be made available on Xbox Live according to an LA Times online publication.
