Dev aiming to bring steal/horror title to iOS and desktop devices

Kickstarter game Republique has surpassed its $500,000 goal thanks to a last-minute jump in the number of backers.

The game, which is being developed by Camouflaj, reached $555,662 from more than 11,611 backers. The company later tweeted, “We’ve been envisioning that green banner below $500K for over a month. Thank you for making it a reality!”

Republique follows the character Hope, a young woman trapped in an Orwell-inspired world, and feature stealth/survival horror gameplay.

Camouflaj is a new company set up by Ryan Payton, who has worked on Metal Gear Solid 4 and Halo. Payton said he is looking to bring AAA game quality specifically for iOS devices. He said, “We received a lot of encouragement from the community for our vision to design a AAA game specifically for iOS devices.

However, the game is not limited to smart phones and tablets; PC and Mac owners will be able to get into the world as well.

Camoufalj’s Patrick Ascolese said, “The PC/Mac version is not going to be just a direct port. We’re going to explore lots of other things that make the game unique and interesting on that platform.”

Metal Gear Solid veterans David Hayter and Jennifer Hale have joined the voice cast along with MGS series English voice directer Kris Zimmerman. Hayter will playing as a mysterious “revolutionary voice” in the world. Hale will be voicing The Mentor, who helps Hope build as a character.

I an announcement interview on the game’s Kickstarter page, Hale said, “I love the story, for me it’s always about the story, it’s always about writing, it’s about the characters. And I love this character The Mentor… the intensity of what’s going on with my character and the stakes are at the absolute maximum.”

The developer estimates that the game will be released in June 2013.
