Retailer to hold one-day event in Texas for PowerUp Rewards members
Following the trend set by the UK retailer GAME, GameStop has announced that it will host a consumer convention for its PowerUp Rewards members.
To be held in San Antonio, Texas, GameStop EXPO 2012 will showcase upcoming videogames and give the public hands on time with some of this year’s big releases.
The five-hour event will take place on August 29 with tickets costing $35 for a standard pass and $100 for a special VIP pass, which will grant access to four panel sessions and the VIP gaming lounge.
The GameStop website said, “You’ll experience the hottest new video games months before they’re released, check out and play your favorite games, enter for chances to win great prizes in drawings from your favorite video game publishers, and enjoy special celebrity appearances and autograph signings.”
However, on the other side of the pond, GAME has announced the cancellation of this year’s GAMEfest. The company had a rough start to the new year with many financial problems but, having exited administration last month, it hinted that it could host GAMEfest once more in 2013.
The company’s Twitter feed broke the news, saying “I’m afraid GAMEfest won’t be happening this year but we do have some cool things in the works. By the way – this doesn’t mean it won’t happen next year. *wink*.”
