Practical jokers move quest givers into unreachable locations
Phantasy Star Online 2, a Sega title, has fallen foul of a curious practical joke from an unkown group of hackers, revealed Kotaku.
After breaking into the game code, hackers had some fun with the locations of important NPCs in the ship02 location. If a player wished to continue a quest line in the area, they may need to aquire the ability to levitate to the NPC who was now waiting casually atop a high ledge, or the player might have to dissipate through solid glass to reach their quest giver.
Sega confirmed it was aware of the relocation of the important NPCs into unreachable areas and is vigorously looking into righting the issue.
On a more serious note, the company confirmed that no personal player data has been leaked. Unfortunately, there’s no real update on the progress of the NPCs being returned to their proper coordinates. In the meantime, players are being advised that, if they stumble upon this issue, they should leave that area and continue on with something else until everything is resolved.
Floating NPCs should be reported to Sega as well as possible ‘cheaters’ – Sega suggests players turn to the ‘wicked user form’ to make these complaints.
Sega has recently announced that the popular MMO will be released in North America and Europe sometime in 2013.
