The question that comes around every weekend: What are you playing? We at Press2Reset already know what we’ll be doing but how about you? Check out our staff’s picks for the weekend and let us know what you’ll be up to.
Aaron Carlisle, @acidbrn – Having played a bit of the Darksiders II demo at Comic-Con my curiosity was piqued, so I went and picked up the first game in order to better understand the backstory. After all who doesn’t want to play a game based around the four horsemen of the apocalypse? Plus the game has easy achievements, which is always a bonus. In addition to Darksiders I always have to have some sort of mobile title to play, so this week I’ve picked up the latest game from Mistwalker, Party Wave. This being the first of three iOS games they have on tap, I definitely recommend checking it out.
Graham McCann, @GrahamSMcCann – Well, since there are those Steam summer deals that are putting kind of a dent in my credit card I have a lot of choices on my plate: Alan Wake: American Nightmare, Dungeon Siege III, and from a previous deal Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. I am also playing F.E.A.R. 3 and some Black Ops again – I am not as good as I once was. However, the game that I think everyone should get (because it’s free) is Slender Man. Slender Man is a creepy indie game where you search a dark forest for eight notes — but beware of the Slender Man lurking amongst the woods, shrouded in darkness.
Melissa Kay, @THEquadskater – I’ve been indulging on the intrigue and wit that is Sherlock and Wallander (which has absolutely nothing to do with a certain Brit I assure you) as of late. While I’ve been on a bit of a gaming strike, the crime/mystery genre kick that I’m on has tempted me to revisit L.A. Noire and Heavy Rain. Who is the Origami Killer? Dun dun dun…
Phil Nachum, @philpee2 – This week I started and finished Warhammer 40K: Space Marine. There’s a certain simple joy to slaughtering waves and waves of orks. The story isn’t particularly forgiving to those without knowledge of the Warhammer lore, and the locations are more than a little mundane, but the combat is great. I’m looking forward to spending some time with multiplayer.
Chris Root – I finally picked up the God of War collection this week, and I just got Pandora’s Box and escaped Hades, so all that’s left is to beat Ares into a puddle of unholy goo. Once that’s done, I’ll be ready to butcher my way through GoW 2 this weekend. I’m also still working my way through the Castlevania: LoS add-ons. I also just discovered, or rather rediscovered, that I have the Sly Cooper Collection, so if I get tired of slaughtering hellspawn with weapons on chains I may spend some time evading Camilla whilst trying to recover the lost pages of the Thievius Raccoonus.
Sean Knight, @SeanDKnight – This weekend the only gaming I’ll be looking forward to is fishing. No, not Sega Bass Fishing but the real life kind. You know, where “I’m on a boat!” with a reel in my hand getting burned to a crisp by the sun. Aside from that little excursion I’ll be playing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and then try to sneak in some DayZ. After the time I had recording with fellow Press2Reset writer Sam Neal I’m going to be hunting down my fellow humans since they were the cause of our frustrations last time. Like I said; with DayZ, it’s not the zombies you have to worry about, it is your fellow survivors.
James Gardiner, @keltar93 – With BioShock finally wrapping up (and it’s as good as everyone said) and Super Meat Boy, I’ll be moving on to working through the backlog built up by the indie bundle and Steam’s Summer Sale. Braid and Thief are on the agenda next, though since I’m going to be at home, I’m a bit inclined to get some time in on my Wii. I’m a bit compelled to go back and finish Epic Mickey, though Pikmin 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask are enticing prospects as well.
Jason S. – I will be tromping around the Bionis with Shulk, Reyn, and company and taking in the gorgeous scenery and outstanding soundtrack of Xenoblade Chronicles. While it has been a bit of a slow burn at times, I am halfway to the finish line and the story is really picking up, though the cast as a whole still hasn’t won me over. I’ve been in a bit of a handheld rut of late, but I plan to dust off the PSP and head back to the Decade of Excess with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. A little mayhem here and wanton destruction there should be a nice change of pace.
Richard Hayden, @HaydenOnP2R – Having finally wrapped up the Uncharted trilogy last weekend, I found a big space in my agenda. Initially, I plugged it with some Mass Effect 3 but I’m getting a bit jaded with my second run-through so soon after the first. So, I doubt I’ll spend much time with Commander Shepard over the weekend. But… I will be exploring the extremities of the known universe, taking my small ship from system to system in search of trade, mining opportunities or open conflict. Yes, I’ll be in EVE Online.
Randy Lamberson, @RandyOnP2R – After just finishing the brain bending Quantum Conundrum last night I find myself at a loss of what to play. This is probably a good thing as I will be gone most of this weekend with little time to play. Perhaps I will pick up a 3DS or Vita game to take with me. Either that or I will finally start up Amnesia: Dark Descent.
Marc Lynch, @MarcOnP2R – Do you hear that? It’s the sound of an empty wallet lamenting its lost funds, cold and lonely after being ravaged by the insatiable beast that is the Steam Summer Sales. While trying to avoid Valve’s siren song I’ll be continuing a playthrough of Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. I’ve also been invited to join in the Guns of Icarus Online beta this weekend and will most likely try to find a bit of time for Resonance of Fate again.
