Dev says Best Friends Forever lets players hit with shots that missed
Gearbox has released more details on the Mechromancer class in Borderlands 2. While the class is planned for release at a later date (about 60 days after the game’s launch), the Borderlands developer had enough of the cyber summoner’s build completed to show to Eurogamer.
The skill tree that was detailed, Best Friends Forever, is designed in a way to make up for any lack of FPS skill in new players. Lead designer John Hemingway said, “This is, I love Borderlands and I want to share it with someone, but they suck at first-person shooters. Can we make a skill tree that actually allows them to understand the game and to play the game? That’s what our attempt with the Best Friends Forever skill tree is.”
The skill tree allows players to occasionally miss with a skill called Close Enough. If a bullet misses its mark and hits a wall or another object close by, it has the chance to ricochet and hit the original target anyways.
Hemingway also has big plans for another of the skill trees, “Right now, I’m thinking of it as a hardcore mode. So if you are a really expert player, and you want to do some tricky, difficult things, this is the tree for you, for just a totally different experience. We’re not ready to talk about it, because we have no idea if it’s even going to pan out. But we’ve got some interesting ideas there.”
Borderlands 2 is scheduled to release September 18 in North America and September 21 in the UK for the PC, 360, and PS3 platforms.
