Dev team sets out timetable for features and invites user interaction
Sony Online Entertainment has launched Roadmap, a feedback service for its MMO game PlanetSide 2.
The page allows players to see what features SOE developers are currently working on, and give feedback. The features each has its own discussion page where gamers can join the conversation about how the idea should be tackled or implemented into the next game update. Viewers to the page can also vote up comments they like to show their approval.
Roadmap rank-orders the features by activity level, with the ideas that get the most comments and approval votes appearing first. The upcoming features are also listed by the month the development team plans to implement them, so gamers can look ahead to see when new vehicles, maps, and community features like player-made decals are coming.
The topics listed in Roadmap often directly state what gameplay issue they are addressing. The development team openly states problems, and what they plan to do to tackle things like: spawn camping, rendering distance affecting weapon ranges, or balancing weapons and classes.
Looking way ahead at the Roadmap updates, it appears as though SOE is adding tournament structures to PlanetSide 2. The post itself says that the devs want to, “…create a structure for direct outfit competition to be used for tournaments and e-sports.”
