The question that comes around every weekend: What are you playing? We at Press2Reset already know what we’ll be doing but how about you? Check out our staff’s picks for the weekend and let us know what you’ll be up to.
Ander Breeding, @Andyb0y - As I trudge through a game that is sly in how it’s putting me to sleep, I will swap in some demon hunting with Dante in DmC to rejuvenate my mind. It will be a good idea for me to ride that demon hunting high right into the show, Supernatural. I wish Dean and Sammy were my brothers. It would make finding out why all my socks go missing easier with these sleuths on the case.
Jason S. – Agent 47 and I are like two peas in a pod (all of the murdering and violence notwithstanding). After all, we both have an affinity for the color red and don’t exactly need to go to the barber. I think I’m about halfway done with Hitman: Absolution and just have to get by that dirty-fighting Sanchez (I know there’s a joke there somewhere). On the handheld front, I’m attempting to keep up with Shibuya’s latest fashion trends and unravel the mystery of finicky teenage palettes in The World Ends With You.
Graham McCann, @GrahamSMcCann – I finished Leon’s campaign and have now moved on to Chris’ in Resident Evil 6. In between playing the campaign I like playing the Mercenaries mode to get more points to buy skills. Unfortunately, all the good skills I want to level up are so expensive! I am also still slowly going through the Hitman HD Collection for PS3. I am very particular when it comes to doing missions in the games, so it takes me a while; I certainly don’t want to kill any innocents nor guards that don’t deserve it. Dead Space 3 will have to wait until next week.
Chris Root – There are people in this world in need of a good killing, and I’ve got just the fiber wire to do the job. Yes, I’m still invested in playing through the Hitman HD Collection, and I have to say I’m really enjoying the nostalgia of the experience. It hasn’t come without sacrifice, though. Ni no Kuni is currently dealing with some abandonment issues. Sometimes, late at night, I can hear it whimpering from the deepest recesses of my PS3 collection, saying “Why… why..?”
David Kilborn, @DavidInRealTime – You can get a lot done in 30 seconds. You can tie your shoes, shop for a Valentine’s present, or even get the Wii U home menu to load. You might even be able to save the world. This weekend I will be taking a minute to complete Half-Minute Hero, one of my favorite PSP games. The journey may be fraught with danger, but at least you know you will be home by curfew. Afterwards, I will continue grinding for hours on end in Ni no Kuni as I attempt to catch ‘em all. Hopefully, this will give me time to contemplate how to allocate funds from my most recent Nintendo points card. If you have any favorite downloads for either eShop, let me know!
Andrew Testerman, @iamaparade – Despite Sony’s best efforts, I actually managed to find a copy of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for my platforming pleasure. I’ve had it up to here with violent action games right now, and a fun, old-school PS2 throwback sounds like a great time! I intend to steep myself in furry, thieving critters from here until Sunday.
…Unless any of my local retailers are finally stocking Fire Emblem: Awakening. I love me some turn-based strategy, and playing XCOM last year reminded me how much fun it is to command armies one move at a time. I’m also hoping that if enough people buy Fire Emblem, Intelligent Systems will finally make a new Advance Wars for the 3DS. Ulterior motives!
James Gardiner, @keltar93 – It’s gonna take a lot to take me away from you !
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do!
I bless the rains down in Africa!
Gonna take some time to do the things we never have!
(That’s my way of saying I’ll be playing Far Cry 2 this weekend.)
Richard Hayden, @HaydenOnP2R – So my JRPG experiment met with mixed success last week. I enjoyed the Ni no Kuni demo enough to think I’ll pick the game up later in the year. However, my time with FFVII was less inspiring, but it taught me one thing. Modern gaming is much better at offering save points! So, after trying those two games, I popped back into Skyrim (just to get my head straight, honest). But, I’m determined to keep trying something new at the weekends, so, it won’t be the Dragonborn DLC for me just yet. Rather, having discovered that Borderlands 2 on PC has an FOV slider, I’m going to give that a go. See you on Pandora (if you’re still there, that is).
Anton Wegenast, @VirusSixZero – To avoid spoilers, I won’t say where I’m exploring, but I’m creeping around the darkened hallways and locales that are best described as “gooey” in Dead Space 3.
I’ve also picked up my old habits in the Hitman Trilogy. Being the consummate professional killer is very time consuming though. Timing every kill and body drag just right takes lots of patience (and thanks to the old finicky AI, lots of loaded saves). I’m doing my best to resist the urge to just unleash the Silver Ballers, and be merely a witness to a series of unfortunate accidents.
Mark Purcell, @Symposium56 – This weekend I will be spending more time in Inaba, Japan. Persona 4: Golden has sucked me in, and it won’t let go. It is nice to have such an endearing story to play for a change. I’m about 20 hours into the game so I figure I’ll be playing this for many weekends to come. While the combat in P4G is amazing, it is the social aspect of the game that is addicting. Trying to manage a school schedule as well as working part-time jobs, and hanging out with friends is hard. There is some serious time management in this game. More importantly I currently I have a major crush on the popular Yukiko, but sadly I don’t have enough courage to ask her out. Hopefully next week I’ll be able to report back with good news on this front.
Ryan Boyce, @RJBESQ – Really, all I should be saying is “I’m playing Ni no Kuni all weekend” and I’m sure you would all understand. However, that would make for a pretty boring read, and it’s also not entirely true. Ever since the Steam Holiday Sale, I’ve been playing another game quite consistently. With my trusty bass guitar in hand, I’ve been learning the ropes through Rocksmith and I plan to continue my hour-a-day regimen! Also, here and there you’ll catch me on the fields of Summoner’s Rift like clockwork. League of Legends has a bit of a hold on me again as my roommates and I are slowly climbing the ranks. And finally, I’ve been coerced into trying out Path of Exile, a game currently in open beta that feels like a cross between the gameplay of Diablo and the leveling system of FFX. Once I get a little deeper, I’ll be sure to let you know how my journey goes. As always, send me a tweet if you’d like to join me and I’ll see what I can do!
Alex Martinet, @AlMartinet – I’m going to continue to play DOTA 2. Does anybody know when they’re going to add new equipment for the Lich? I’m going to hit level four this weekend. I’m not ready to play Dead Space 3 yet, unlike everyone else. I’ll do so later, but I’m really skeptical. Dead Space 2 already seems like the proper ending to the series.
John Mobbs, @GamerPlox – My copy of Ni no Kuni has finally arrived complete with a beautiful Wizard’s Companion and a somewhat less beautiful Drippy plush that’s sure to give me night terrors for years to come. As a huge Studio Ghibli fan it goes without saying that I’ll be glued to my PS3 all weekend – if not forever.
Melissa Kay, @THEquadskater – In Dragon Age: Origins I’ll be traveling far and wide to defend Ferelden from the blight. As a female noble gone Grey Warden my dual-blades will cut down any foe in my path as I avenge my family’s death, kill the Archdemon, and find love! Reliving the tale is my homework in preparation for the PAX East panel, Foreplay: Romance in Video Games, which is quite literally the best homework assignment ever.
Aenne Schumann, @PeachyAenne – It is time. That dreaded time where you look back at all the games you started and realize you are knees deep in your backlog. It’s an official backlog weekend this week. I have more than enough to choose from. Top contenders are Persona 3 Portable, (I am seriously at the final area and just grinding shadows non-stop to make sure I’m high enough level), Jade Empire (I still have to save my master and become the greatest spirit monk ever), and The Witcher 2 (Triss needs to saved, I need to clear my name). However, with my recent obsession with FTL, I might just ignore my backlog a little longer and travel the space trail on Twitch.
Aaron Carlisle, @acidbrn – There is no greater way to vent anger and frustration than playing through a game like Dead Space 3 where random senseless stomping and punching is encouraged. So that is what I will continue to do, stomp every single necromorph limb I come across. I will then take each and every piece and manically laugh as I throw them off cliffs. Laughter is, as they say, the best medicine! Hahahaha…
Nate Hales, @nhales80 – The journey was tough. Many a night were spent huddled together under the glow of a single torch in a makeshift hut built of dirt. In the distance you could hear the moans of monsters, searching for wary adventures. It was all worth it as we crested over the hill on saw our goal in the distance. We had found it. Our search that had spanned weeks had finally paid off. We had found a village, full of bustling inhabitants and life. We are looking to trade and explore its many wonders. Hopefully, we can find many useful minerals in the ground below, but regardless, the discovery is its own success.
This is Minecraft. This is why I spend all my time there.
Marc Lynch, @MarcOnP2R - The past week has certainly been trying without my lovely consoles and PC to keep me entertained, but luckily my PSP and its younger brother Vita are keeping me company. I finally finished my first playthrough of Persona 4: Golden so it’s probably time to move on, right? Wrong! I missed out on two dungeons and need to max out my Social Links!
Interspersed with that replay, I’ll be trudging through dungeons to learn what it takes to be an adventurer in Class of Heroes. Apparently, the pointy end of the sword goes in the monsters.
