Server stress test event scheduled for 24-hour window on February 16/17
Perhaps you missed the first of the SimCity beta events. Well, fret not because EA is holding a second closed beta for its upcoming city management game. Registration is only open until February 11 (6am PST), so you’ll have to act fast to be in with a chance of taking part.
The beta will run from February 16 (6am PST) until February 17 (6am PST). So, if you were unsure of how to spend your Saturday, problem solved. Those who registered for the first beta event but didn’t get in won’t have to re-register for this one. If you did get in last time, then stand by because you are elegible again. Access codes will be sent out once the beta has begun.
According to the game’s official FAQs, the purpose of the second closed beta is to test out servers before the full retail release. After the first go-around, EA felt additional servers where necessary to improve flow for players.
The publisher also said that some of the feedback received from the first round has already been implemented, so returning players will notice some changes.
According to EA, the purpose of this beta will solely be to stress test the servers, which is why the event is only scheduled for 24 hours rather than the two days set aside for the first test.
As before, gamers who preorder the title through Origin will receive a code to access the closed beta regardless of the version purchased. More details on the game and the beta can be found on the SimCity blog.
SimCity is due for release in North America on March 5, and in Europe, Japan and Australia on March 7.
