Purchases made on digital platform will be cross-platform where possible
EA has launched their digital games distribution and social network Origin for Mac. The free service offers a storefront for purchasing EA titles, cloud storage of saves, and chat with other users.
Origin vice-president of production Michael Blank said, “Our vision with Origin is to connect your gaming universe online, and today we’re taking a major step in expanding our service to reach Mac-based gamers worldwide.”
The game publishing company has also announced that purchases made through Origin will support multiple platforms, if available. Games bought for Mac will also enable the same title to be downloaded to a PC under that account. Blank explained the savings and ease of use intended when he said, “Origin service across PC, Mac and iOS devices… offering great value to gamers with dual-platform play on select EA titles, Origin is making it easier than ever before for gamers to connect and play anytime, anywhere.”
Origin was launched as an alpha build last month on Mac, with some features disabled. The full release activates the storefront. EA promises to get other features like Twitch.tv streaming, up and running as soon as possible.
