Another year has arrived and so has Valentine’s Day. Like a Final Fantasy character with an infinite number of Phoenix Downs, V-Day just won’t die. So those of us who are single sit at home in complete misery, chowing down on chicken wings, buckets of ice cream, and Klingon gagh (it really is better when alive and squirming) in an attempt to fill the empty void.
But, as always, we are not alone.
Many of our favorite video game characters, despite their legendary adventures and masses of adoring fans, share in our misery. Just look at last year’s Valentines and Video Games list characters to see how many of them are still single like us. Agent 47 (Hitman: Absloution), Dante (Devil May Cry), and the multiple characters from Resident Evil 6 failed to forge a lasting relationship with anyone in their latest outings while the rest of the characters are still single.
Not to worry though, I’m sure some of them will eventually find their Valentines. Yet here are some more of your favorite video game characters who will, like us, be celebrating V-day on their own.
This particular choice of mine will be controversial and I’m sure you are all screaming that this isn’t so. But despite all the romance-able characters in the Mass Effect trilogy and the relationships you could start up, none of them seemed to last very long. What really makes our intrepid Commander fall into this category is how Mass Effect 3 ends.
He is all by himself in the end. Whether he lives or dies it is all by his lonesome.
Poor Alice. She has been through so much both mentally and physically. Despite all she has experienced and done in Wonderland she is still a sweet girl right? Now if only should would put down that big knife and let someone get close to her…
For someone that has the physique of a Greek god you would think that Kratos could find someone to help temper his fire. Sadly that is not the case as he has continued his bloody rampage. Guess looks aren’t everything right?
But maybe Kratos will finally find someone to calm him down when God of War: Ascension is released.
What can one say about Sarah? She was a deadly assassin and espionage agent with psychic powers who was then captured by the Zerg and transformed into the Queen of Blades. Yes, before she turned into the Queen of Blades her and Jim Raynor had a thing. Will they rekindle their romance? Perhaps Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm will answer that question.
Until then, she celebrates Valentine’s Day all on her own.
Love him or hate him there is no denying that Duke can stand out in a crowd. While all the women, and even men, want to sleep with him it seems that this guy is nowhere close to even thinking of settling down with anyone. He may get to sleep with all the women he wants but none of them are his Valentine.
Despite being one of the most popular female characters in the game industry there hasn’t been much for Lara in terms of her love life. She may have the brains, personality, and looks but she is still eating out of the gallon bucket of ice cream on V-Day. Even her new game, Tomb Raider, doesn’t look as if it will offer her any romance. In fact it looks as if the game will be downright painful for her.
Then again… pain and love are the same thing for some people… right?
So drive away the loneliness you are feeling today by picking up your controller and spending the day with one of these lonely characters!
