The question that comes around every weekend: What are you playing? We at Press2Reset already know what we’ll be doing but how about you? Check out our staff’s picks for the weekend and let us know what you’ll be up to.
Mark Purcell, @Symposium56 – Thanks to Microsoft’s super-mega-awesome sale I recently purchased Resident Evil 6. I have always been a fan of the series, but I couldn’t get excited for number six, but since it was on sale I decided to go ahead and buy it. I’ve only played a few hours of Leon’s campaign, and all I can say at this point is that Capcom loves quick time events. I swear if Leon tries to drink a cup of coffee I’ll have to smash the A button a thousand times. Anyways, I’m going to try my hardest to complete the game this weekend before Tomb Raider arrives on Tuesday. But slaying zombies won’t be the only thing I’ll be doing. I’ll also be building my home away from home in Minecraft. Sadly I’m a loser who doesn’t own a PC, so I can’t play with all the fantastic people here at Press2Reset, but the 360 Edition does scratch that Minecraft itch. Also if anyone has any pointers in obtaining a Blaze Rod I’d really appreciate it — I really want that brewing station. Have a great weekend everyone!
Kyle Holt, @keilhal – You know how every now and again there’s a game that, as soon as you beat it, you’re first instinct is to crank up the difficulty and start over? Well, Far Cry 3 just had that effect on me. In light of this, I will be hammering away at the new Mass Effect 3 multiplayer DLC in hopes that it’ll distract me from the seductive dance of Lady Far Cry.
Aaron Carlisle, @acidbrn – Games, so many to play, but sadly so little time to play ‘em. What could only be chalked up to some sort of black magic, I have been playing games on the Wii again (dun dun dunnn!); a game called Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories. Which possibly none of you will recognize. The game is a sequel to the DS game Trace Memory. Only Another Code R failed to see release outside of Japan and Europe.
And I did say so many games, right? I am also playing Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, a game that could show Scott Pilgrim vs. The World how side-scrolling beat ‘em ups should be done.
Graham McCann, @GrahamSMcCann – Besides working, I will probably be playing Resident Evil 6’s Mercenaries mode to get more points to buy the infinite ammo perks. I already finished the whole game, but I think it would be fun to play through with the ease of not worrying about ammunition like Resident Evil 4 and 5. Besides that, I want to get to Dead Space 3 and finish that. I am going to Edmonton for my days off on Monday and Tuesday and will pick up Metal Gear Rising and Tomb Raider for PS3. I am looking forward to playing both, especially Tomb Raider which looks really awesome. I saw the Clueless Gamer with Conan O’Brien segment on it and it looked great, and it was quite funny, too. If you haven’t seen Conan’s Clueless Gamer segments, they are great. Some notable games he’s played are Hitman Absolution, Resident Evil 6, and Skyrim.
Phil Nachum, @philpee2 – I’ll be picking up Crytek’s guide to writing the most generic sci-fi apocalypse plot ever. Power armor? Check. A draconian military occupation? Check. A wormhole to another dimension leading to an alien invasion? Check. Yup, Crysis 3 is that kind of game. It sure as hell looks pretty though. It’s easily the most technically impressive game on 360. If I get through that, I’ll either revisit Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, which I just picked up on the crazy Xbox Live sale, or I’ll start Vanquish. Because I need another sci-fi shooter revolving around power armor!
Andrew Testerman, @iamaparade – I’ll actually be skiing this weekend, so I won’t have much time for games. Unless I can find a way to sneak Fire Emblem: Awakening onto the chair lift… After I dig myself out of the snow, though, I hope to dive into Far Cry 3. Nothing says March like a tropical getaway!
Sean Knight, @SeanDKnight – Looks like I’m hooked on Minecraft again as I’ve found myself playing on the same server with many of my fellow P2R co-workers. It’s been an interesting ride so far and I’ve learned that Marc tends to get lost a lot. As I continue to transform the desert I’ve claimed as my own, hopefully we will continue to stream our adventures on TwitchTV. If you want to know what you are missing out on then you can check out one of the videos posted. Aside from Minecraft I’ll still be playing DOTA 2 where I seem to be back on a losing streak again… Argh!
John Mobbs, @GamerPlox – I too have been sucked into playing Minecraft with the rest of the P2R gang. I think I’ve already earned myself a reputation for falling to my death every fifteen minutes, and last night I almost managed to get trapped in my own mine after a dangerous encounter with a silverfish or three. This weekend I’m planning on building myself a calm little house by the water to relax in after my ordeals, but I’m sure even that simple task will kill me somehow. Other than that Pirate101 is high on my list again as I’ve just defeated the Duck of Death in an exciting climax and my crew is getting stronger by the day.
Chris Root – I have become thoroughly hooked on Etrian Odyssey IV, and am slowly but surely making my way deeper and deeper into its world. Of course, I can’t play it all the time… my 3DS needs time to charge, after all. So, during those lulls, I’ll spend some time playing a few of the games I’ve picked up during the Xbox sale this week… and waiting impatiently for that little orange light on my 3DS to turn off.
David Kilborn, @DavidInRealTime – Let’s face it: there is a systematic problem with how women are portrayed in video games. Oh, there are good heroines, but they seem few and far between and their games hardly receive the same treatment from either developers or consumers. This weekend, I will be co-hosting the first of a series of streams playing through and debating the ways women are characterized in some of our favorite games. What sort of titles can you expect us to cover? Viewers will decide the actual lineup, but on the list we have Heavy Rain, Lollipop Chainsaw, Bayonetta, a myriad of Metroid games, and much more. If you have any suggestions for us or want to watch, hit me up on Twitter!
Aenne Schumann, @PeachyAenne – This past week I was trying to save money for the upcoming PAX East, but I went on a bit of a gaming binge. I picked up Etrian Odyssey IV (and have been grinding away), Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi, and Persona 2 from PSN. I will try to play all three of them, but I’m thinking Etrian might win out! I’ll also be playing some Go Home Dinosaurs and Sang-Froid on Twitch. I don’t think I have enough time for all these games, but I’m going to try!
Anton Wegenast, @VirusSixZero – Last weekend I played a bit of Rock Band 3 and it rekindled my love for rhythm games. I plan to take it to the road, become a travellin’ band. If fame doesn’t destroy us, maybe a significant other will.
Richard Hayden, @HaydenOnP2R – I too re-entered the time vacuum that is Minecraft this week. Already I have dug two of the world’s least productive mineshafts and watched with grim horror as the chat feed repeatedly filled with news of John Mobbs falling to his death. When I’m not glumly chiselling through endless rock and soil, I shall be taking my place on the Grid, recently snagged in the XBL sale. I’ll doubtless be scorching a few burnouts, sipping winner’s champagne and relentlessly choking my opponents with my acrid exhaust smoke. Definitely that. Not wrecking my car at the first corner. Again.
Alex Martinet, @AlMartinet – I think I am just going to sit back, and play some Persona 4 Golden on my new PS Vita. I have a couple of games I am reviewing at the moment, including the MMORPG Champions of Regnum, which will take up the majority of my time.
James Gardiner, @keltar93 – At last, I have finally acquired a copious amount of cobblestone on our Minecraft server! What new creative prospects will I pursue constructing in this great world? …Probably a big stone tower. I’m not very imaginative, but Freud might be proud.
Nate Hales, @nhales80 – Minecraft, Minecraft, Go Home Dinosaurs, Minecraft, Ni no Kuni and then maybe a little Minecraft. When you have three servers to play on, you need a lot of time, even if on one of those servers all you have done is leave snarky signs in a few places. I feel good about these weekend plans.
Marc Lynch, @MarcOnP2R – I was wondering who destroyed one of my doors on principle. Recent clues now point to Nate. In other Minecraft news, I’ve also discovered that I’m the absolute worst house guest ever. Well, aside from the creepers that follow me wherever I go. At least I’m not the one exploding and flooding my neighbors homes with liquid-hot magma…
When I’m not building (or destroying by association), I’ll be playing some more Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny or continuing my quest to become Champion of the Unova region in Pokemon White.
