Dues Ex: Human Revolution dev handling new instalment of stealth title
Eidos has announced that Thief, a reboot of the stealth franchise, is currently in development for next-gen platforms.
Officially announced via a Game Informer cover reveal, Thief is being developed by Eidos Montréal, developer of 2011′s Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The game follows the series’ protagonist Garrett through the industrial Gothic-inspired City, avoiding the tyrannical Baron who controls the City as well as the plague that afflicts it.
Eidos Montréal’s general manager Stephane D’Astous said, “We’re handling a precious gemstone with Thief. Fans remember the original games very fondly and we want to preserve that essence – which we have excellent experience of doing at Eidos Montréal – while also introducing Thief to a brand new, next-generation, audience. Our goal is to deliver the fantasy of being Garrett, the master thief, and we’re building this game around that core experience.”
Thief is a series of stealth video games, beginning with Thief: The Dark Project in 1998. The original game, as well as the sequel Thief II: The Metal Age, were developed by Eidos’s Looking Glass Studios exclusively for PC. The third entry, Thief: Deadly Shadows was developed for PC and Xbox by Ion Storm. Thief 4 was confirmed in 2009, though it was then referred to as Thief 4 (spelled Thi4f).
Thief is set to come to PC, PS4, and next-generation consoles in 2014.
