Eleven new vessels teased ahead of expansion launch on May 21
Perfect World has released details on its developer blog of the Romulan ships coming to Star Trek: Online in the next expansion.
The inclusion of Romulan ships in STO is part of the Legacy of Romulus, which introduces the Romulans as the third playable faction alongside the Federation and Klingon Empire. Romulan ships, with the exception of some of the small craft, will come equipped with a Romulan Batlle Cloaking device.
To compliment the device, Romulans will have a racial trait called Subterfuge. Subterfuge will make their ships harder to detect when cloaked. However, it does increase the damage taken when exiting cloak but also provides a small passive defense bonus.
Just like in Star Trek canon, the Romulan vessels will be powered with Singularity Warp Cores. As such, Singularity abilities will be made available as players level up and gain access to higher tier vessels and additional abilities. The abilities are fueled by Singularity Power. When an ability is used power is consumed and the ability then scales based on the amount of power consumed.
The available ships, 11 in total, are mostly original designs. For small craft there is the Tiercel Shuttle, Kestrel Runabout, and Scorpion Fighter. In addition, there is a retro version of the classic warbird, called the Tvaro Light Warbird Retrofit, as well as the original and familiar D’deridex Warbird Battle Cruiser Refit.
The Legacy of Romulus is slated to be released May 21.
