New AD Carry will be a bottom lane bully
Riot Games has introduced a new League of Legends champion called Lucian, the Purifier. His ability set gives him options for lane control through sustainable harass and chase strategies, and based on Lucian’s lore, the Purifier has a score to settle with Thresh, the Chain Warden, who is responsible for the death of Lucian’s wife.
Lucian’s first two abilities, Piercing Light and Ardent Blaze, make for excellent laning options. Piercing Light can puncture lines of enemies to reach the true target while Ardent Blaze can mark foes to give Lucian a temporary speed boost. Relentless Pursuit allows the Purifier to dash forward (or away) while also removing any slow debuffs, which gives him some versatility for chasing down fleeing enemies or evading pursuers. These abilities will force enemy Champions to stay on their toes when laning against Lucian.
The Purifier’s ultimate ability, The Culling, allows him to fire in a single direction while still moving. This is similar to Miss Fortune’s ultimate, but focuses on a smaller area while the Champion can move while firing.
Lucian’s passive ability, Lightslinger, shows that Riot intends for the Purifier’s battle strategy to be a hybrid of attack damage and ability power. Lucian’s auto attack fires double shots every time an ability is used.
Riot has suggested that Lucian is best suited to the bottom lane – a traditional spot for ranged carries – in 5v5 matches. In teamfights his abilities will allow him to stay at a safe distance while still providing mobile damage control.
Lucian, the Purifier, will be the next new Champion available in the League of Legends store. Though he has not been given a release date, it is likely that he will be available in around three to four weeks.
