Developer counters account hackers with layer of email-based protection
Riot Games has added email verification to League of Legends accounts as an extra layer of security for its players, according to an announcement on the official website. Riot said the measure is already in place and will aim to keep malicious attacks on user accounts to a minimum.
Under the new system, any changes made to an account will trigger an email being sent to the verified and linked email. It is hoped that this should keep owners aware of any suspicious activity related to their profile in the popular moba.
Associate product manager Veruco said, “Baddies won’t be able to change a single credential on your account without also having access to your verified email account. This is just a first step – we’re looking into many more security features to keep your account details safe like SMS protection and more, so stay tuned.”
As incentive to encourage all users to add the extra layer of security, Riot is offering a four-win IP booster to anyone who opts into the added security measure. The process can be started from the League of Legends website.
