Play4Paws 2: This time it’s fur-sonal
Gamer and Geek Culture outlets are coming together to Play4Paws on February 27 to March 2, 2015. Teams will be marathoning and streaming games for 24 hours while collecting donations for Calican Rescue.
Each year it is estimated that six to eight million companion animals are surrendered into shelters in the USA alone. Three to four million are adopted while 2.7 million are euthanized. It’s estimated that there over 70 million homeless animals trying to survive by themselves, and 30 million animals die due to owner neglect and cruelty. There are so many animals in need of help!
Calican Rescue is a grassroots, volunteer run, not-for-profit organization that rescues small-sized dogs from high-kill shelters in California and brings them to Alberta, Canada for adoption. Small dogs are hard to find in shelters in Alberta while chihuahuas and other small breeds are known as “throw away pets” or a “dime a dozen” dogs in California. CaliCan Rescue reduces the number of animals surrendered by its in-depth adoption process and works to educate the public on the benefits of adoption. More recently, CaliCan has grown to accept local surrenders.
Last year we were able to raise just over $2000. With the experience gained we’ve levelled up and are hoping to raise $3000. Even though the games don’t begin until February 27, you can donate now!
This time it’s fur-sonal.
