Second page in as many weeks, this is a good sign. It has been (and will likely continue to be) difficult to get back into a routine for writing In Beta, but hopefully this is a sign of things to come. PAX South will throw a wrench in this of course, but I’m hoping that once I’m back I’ll be able to pick right back up again. There are certain days I’ve identified in my schedule where it works for me to write, so I hope to keep it up!
Get caught up at the story hub. Enjoy!

All of the anxiety and doubt that had been building within Seraph over the many days immediately fled and he had pulled his sword from its sheath before he even realized it.
The Nemesis made no move to attack though, just calmly stood by and watched his counterpart quietly.
This was the first time Seraph had seen the creature since meeting it in Windy Vale during his first ill-fated dive into Beta. There was something different about the Nemesis this time around, but the agent was unable to put a finger on it.
After a lengthy, tense moment where neither said anything, Seraph had finally had enough, “Well what is it? What do you want?” He knew that he was much too far ahead of his team for them to offer him any assistance. Peri might even now be
“Just a moment of your time, I assure you.” Nephil’s voice matched his expression, calm, smooth, and chilling. “The two of us have not had a moment’s time to speak with each other since our first meeting.”
“You mean where you tried to kill me,” Seraph retorted defensively. He angrily remembered the way the Nemesis’s scythe had whistled through the air on its flight towards his mid-section and the fear it had inspired at the time.
Nephil held up a hand as if to ward off his counterpart’s rage, “A misunderstanding, I assure you. I was still very much… incomplete, at the time.”
Seraph’s ire wavered for a moment in confusion, “What do you mean ‘incomplete’?”
“My awareness was still struggling to assert itself. Many of my actions at that point were, shall we say, informed by my programming.”
“Wait,” he started, his blade tip dipping toward the ground. “Your programming?”
“Oh yes,” Nephil’s smile widened. “I know what I am, dear Agent Seraph, and I know what you are too.”
“So you must also know that I have to defeat you,” Seraph reasoned, bringing his sword back up between the two of them.
“I know that is what you have been instructed to do,” the Nemesis replied smoothly. “But whether it is something you must do remains to be seen.”
“It’s something I want to do. After what you’ve done to the people of Windy Vale you deserve everything that is coming to you.”
Nephil nodded slightly, his smile diminishing only slightly, “Perhaps. I can excuse the actions taken around our first meeting, but this new development has angered you. Very well, I will allow you the first strike.” Suiting his words, Nephil held his arms out wide to give Seraph a clear target of his chest. “Make it count, agent.”
Without hesitation, Seraph gripped his sword tightly and thrust ahead with all of his strength.
